I’m sitting here at my kitchen table with two calendars. One is filled with things of the past year. And one is blank.
It’s a tradition I have. Take the old calendar off the wall, take the new one out, place them side by side and go through them month by month. I reminisce about the things that happened. I transfer the things I know will happen in the coming year – birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
It’s the blank spaces on the new one that always make me stop and think.
I don’t KNOW what will happen on March 10th or August 1st or November 11th. But God does. He knew what was going to happen when I hung the blank calendar in my kitchen a year ago today. And He knows what’s going to happen on every single blank spot on this calendar as well.
There is a strange peace in that. God already knows. He’s already there. Blank calendars are nothing to be concerned about.
I happen to know the One who holds all those blank spots in His hand.
I don’t know about tomorrow;
I just live from day to day.
I don’t borrow from its sunshine
For its skies may turn to grey.
I don’t worry o’er the future,
For I know what Jesus said.
And today I’ll walk beside Him,
For He knows what is ahead.
Many things about tomorrow
I don’t seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.
